Overview
Got a new computer or phone and not sure how to bring over your photos, contacts, files and WeChat chats? We come over, set up the new device, agree with you what to move, move it item by item and check it with you at the end. When an account has to be signed in to, such as an Apple ID, a Google account or WeChat, you type the password yourself. WeChat chat history is moved with WeChat’s own migration and backup features, so how much can be moved and how long it takes depend on WeChat.

A new Mac or Windows computer with updates, accounts, everyday apps, Chinese input, Wi-Fi and printer, set up the way you work. -

iPhone, iPad, Samsung and other Android devices: accounts, everyday apps, notifications and privacy settings; for older parents, larger text and a simpler home screen.

Photos, videos and contacts
Moved from the old phone or computer, including between iPhone and Android with each platform’s own transfer tools. A few things can’t cross platforms, and we tell you which first.

Files, email and bookmarks
Documents, spreadsheets, email accounts and browser bookmarks moved to the new computer, including between Mac and Windows.

WeChat chat history
Moved from the old phone to the new one, or backed up to a computer, with WeChat’s own migration and backup features; you sign in to WeChat yourself.

Your old device
Once you have confirmed everything came across, we sign the old device out of your accounts and erase it, ready to pass on, sell or recycle.

Nothing starts until you approve the quote, and parts or equipment are bought only with your OK.

Tell us what you have
Tell us the old and new models, what needs to move (photos, contacts, files, WeChat chats) and roughly how much. Please charge the new device, and don’t erase or reset the old one until everything is across.

We look at the devices and how much data there is, agree with you what to move, how, and roughly how long it may take, and give you a written quote.

Setup and transfer
Work starts once you approve. Large transfers take time, so we do the other setup while files copy. You type your own passwords, and we touch only the data the transfer needs.

Checked together, itemized invoice
We check the photos, contacts, files and chats on the new device with you, and only then deal with the old one. The invoice itemizes labor, the trip charge and pass-through costs.

Will all my WeChat chats come across?
Will you look at my photos and chats?
No. We touch only the data the transfer needs and ask before opening any file or account. You type your own passwords. We don’t keep copies of your data after the job unless you ask us to. See the Privacy page.
Can everything move between iPhone and Android?
Photos, videos, contacts and calendars usually move across. Data inside some apps, and apps bought on the App Store or Google Play, can’t cross platforms; those apps are downloaded again and signed in to on the new phone. WeChat chats are moved with WeChat’s own feature, and whether it works across platforms, and how much it moves, depends on WeChat at the time. Before we start, we go through with you what can and can’t come across.
There’s a lot of data. How long will it take?
It depends on how much there is and how fast the devices are. Lots of photos and videos or a large WeChat history can take a few hours to copy. We do the other setup while files copy to cut down on waiting, and labor is billed by actual time. After the on-site check, we give you a rough idea of how long it will take.
How is the cost worked out?
The trip charge is based on round-trip mileage on the Google Maps fastest route. Labor is billed by actual time, with a 1-hour minimum per visit and 15-minute increments after that. Tolls, the Manhattan congestion toll and parking are passed through at actual cost with no markup and itemized; parts are at cost with the receipt and bought only with your approval.
