Overview

A new printer still in the box, computers and phones that can’t find it, scans that go nowhere, or a printer that has been offline since you changed routers? We come over, set it up and connect it so every computer and phone in the home or office can print and scan, and show you how to handle the common problems yourself. We work on home and office printers and all-in-ones from common brands such as HP, Canon, Epson and Brother.

Who it is for

  • Families printing homework and scanning IDs and tax papers
  • Small offices such as clinics, accounting firms, law offices and shops
  • Anyone whose printer stopped working after a new computer, router or internet provider
  • People with a new printer they would rather not set up themselves

What we do

The work this service usually covers. The exact scope is set out in the written quote after an on-site assessment.

  1. New printer setup

Unboxed, packing tape removed, ink or toner fitted, aligned, connected to your computers and a test page printed.

  2. Wi-Fi printing

The printer joined to your home or office Wi-Fi so computers, iPhones, Android phones and tablets can print directly.

  3. Scanning

Scan to a computer, email or a shared folder, several pages into one PDF, and settings for clear scans of IDs and tax papers.

  4. Drivers and software

Drivers installed or reinstalled, and settings and leftover software from old printers cleaned out, on Mac and Windows.

  5. Common errors

Offline printers, jobs stuck in the queue, blank or streaky pages, paper-jam messages that won’t clear, and printers that vanished after a router change.

  6. Shared printers in small offices

Several computers sharing one printer or all-in-one, with default trays, double-sided and black-and-white printing set to cut waste.

How it works

Nothing starts until you approve the quote, and parts or equipment are bought only with your OK.

  1. Tell us about the printer

Tell us the make and model, which computers and phones print to it and any error message; a photo helps. If it is only a driver or settings problem on a computer, remote tech support may be enough.

  2. On-site check and written quote

We find out whether it is the settings, the drivers, the network or the printer itself, explain the fix and give you a written quote.

  3. Work starts when you approve

Nothing starts until you agree. Cables or other parts are confirmed and bought only with your approval, at cost with the receipt.

  4. Tested on every device, itemized

Every computer and phone prints and scans once, and we show you how to handle the common problems yourself. The invoice itemizes labor, the trip charge, pass-through costs and parts receipts.

Questions

Common questions about cost, scheduling and scope.

Can you repair a broken printer?

We handle setup, connections, drivers, scanning and common errors; we don’t take printers apart to replace internal parts. If something like a print head or feed roller has failed, we tell you honestly and help you decide between the manufacturer’s repair service and a replacement. If you replace it, we can suggest a model that suits how much you print and set it up for you.

Why did my printer stop working after a new router?

The printer still remembers the old Wi-Fi name and password, so it can’t find the new network, and computers often need the printer added again. It’s very common and can usually be sorted out during the visit. If the Wi-Fi itself is weak, we can look at your home network at the same time; see Home network & Wi-Fi.

Can I print straight from my phone?

Most Wi-Fi printers work with AirPrint on iPhone and the built-in printing on Android phones, or with the maker’s own app. We set it up and show you how to print photos, PDFs and email attachments.

Can you look at other devices in the same visit?

Yes. Several printers or computers in one visit share the 1-hour minimum; after that, labor is billed by actual time in 15-minute increments. Tell us beforehand which devices need attention so we can plan the time and bring the right cables.

How is the cost worked out?

The trip charge is based on round-trip mileage on the Google Maps fastest route. Labor is billed by actual time, with a 1-hour minimum per visit and 15-minute increments after that. Tolls, the Manhattan congestion toll and parking are passed through at actual cost with no markup and itemized; parts are at cost with the receipt and bought only with your approval. You get a written quote after an on-site assessment. See the Pricing page for details.
