Overview

Lost files? First, stop using the device: don’t save anything new to it, don’t install recovery software on it, and don’t click “Format” if your computer asks. New data can overwrite what you lost. We check the device on site, tell you honestly what is likely recoverable and how, and only start once you agree, saving what we recover to a separate drive. Some failures, such as a drive that clicks, was dropped or got wet, need a specialist lab, and we will tell you so.

Who it is for

  • Families who deleted the kids’ photos or home videos by mistake
  • Workers and students who need files off a computer that just died
  • Small businesses that lost accounts, orders or customer records
  • Photographers and dashcam owners with a formatted memory card

What we do

The work this service usually covers. The exact scope is set out in the written quote after an on-site assessment.

  1. Deleted files

Documents, photos and videos deleted from computers and external drives, even after the Trash or Recycle Bin was emptied.

  2. Formatted drives and lost partitions

Drives and cards that were formatted, ask to be formatted as soon as you plug them in, show up as RAW, or lost a partition.

  3. Memory cards and USB drives

SD and microSD cards from cameras, dashcams and drones, and USB flash drives of all kinds.

  4. Files off a failed computer

Important files copied off a computer that won’t start or whose system has crashed; an unstable drive is copied in full first, then recovered from the copy.

  5. Phone data

If the phone still turns on, we export photos and files and check what your iCloud or Google backups still hold.

  6. Backups for next time

An external drive, NAS or cloud backup set up, so important files never live in just one place.

How it works

Nothing starts until you approve the quote, and parts or equipment are bought only with your OK.

  1. Stop using it, then contact us

Stop using the device right away, and tell us what it is, how the files were lost and which files matter most. Farther areas: please book in advance.

  2. On-site assessment and written quote

We check the device, work out whether it’s a deletion or formatting problem or failed hardware, explain the odds and the approach, and give you a written quote. We won’t force a physically damaged drive.

  3. Recovery once you approve

Where needed, we copy the whole drive first and work on the copy. After the scan you see the list of recoverable files and decide whether to continue. A new drive for the files is at cost, bought only with your approval.

  4. You check the files; itemized invoice

Recovered files go onto a new drive or a device you choose, and you check them on the spot; if we need a temporary copy on our side during the work, we tell you beforehand how it is handled. The invoice itemizes labor, the trip charge, pass-through costs and the drive receipt.

Questions

Common questions about cost, scheduling and scope.

I just lost some files. What should I do first?

Stop using the device right away. Don’t save new files to it, don’t install recovery software on the same drive, and don’t confirm if the system offers to format it; take the memory card out of the camera or phone and put it somewhere safe. If a drive is clicking or grinding, shut it down and don’t keep switching it back on. The sooner you stop, the better the chances.

Can every file be recovered?

Not always, and we won’t pretend otherwise. It depends on how much has been written to the device since the loss, what kind of storage it is and how badly it is damaged. Files deleted from an SSD are often wiped by the system quickly, so the odds are lower than on a traditional hard drive. We scan first, show you the list of what can be recovered, and you decide whether to go on.

What if the drive is clicking, was dropped or got wet?

Physical damage like this needs a clean-room environment and specialist equipment, so we don’t do it on site and we never open your drive without your agreement. We explain the situation honestly; if you wish, we can help you contact a specialist data recovery lab, which quotes its own fee, and the drive only goes to them with your approval.

Can deleted photos be recovered from my phone?

Current iPhones and most Android phones are encrypted, so once photos or files are fully deleted, getting them back from the phone itself is usually not realistic. The practical route is the Recently Deleted album, then iCloud, Google Photos or a backup on your computer. WeChat chat history that was backed up to a computer can be restored to the phone. If the screen is broken but the phone still turns on, we can try to copy the data off.

How is the cost worked out?

The trip charge is based on round-trip mileage on the Google Maps fastest route. Labor is billed by actual time, with a 1-hour minimum per visit and 15-minute increments after that. Tolls, the Manhattan congestion toll and parking are passed through at actual cost with no markup and itemized; parts are at cost with the receipt and bought only with your approval. You get a written quote after an on-site assessment. See the Pricing page for details.
