Remote tech support

Remote help for homes and businesses, no trip charge

Software and settings problems handled over a remote session you start and can end at any time, for homes and businesses. No trip charge; labor by actual time.

How remote support works

  • You start the session

You start the connection on your own computer, and we act only with your OK. You see everything on screen and can end it at any time.

  • We check first

We hear what is going on and tell you whether it can be done remotely and roughly how long it may take. If it needs a visit, we say so and book one.

  • No trip charge

Labor only, by actual time: a 30-minute minimum per session, then 15-minute increments; ×1.5 in the evening, on Sundays and on holidays.

    How pricing works
  • Homes and businesses

Home computers and the computers in shops, clinics and offices: everyday software and settings problems can be handled remotely first.

Overview

Email that won’t arrive, software that won’t install or errors as soon as it opens, strange pop-ups, printer settings in a mess: many software and settings problems don’t need to wait for a visit and can be handled over a remote connection. You start the connection on your own computer, nothing happens without your OK, and you can watch everything on your screen and end it at any time. Remote support has no trip charge; labor is billed by actual time. If the problem turns out to be hardware, or needs hands-on work, we tell you and book a visit.

Who it is for

  • Homes and individuals with a software or settings problem who would rather not wait for a visit
  • People who work from home and rely on their computer
  • Shops, clinics and offices with everyday computer problems
  • Customers in our farther areas, where visits are booked in advance

What we do

Problems that usually suit remote help. We hear what is going on before deciding whether it can be done remotely, and tell you if it needs a visit.

  1. Installs, updates and error messages

Software that won’t install, won’t open or throws errors, system updates that stall or fail, and settings for everyday apps and Chinese input.

  2. Slowdowns, pop-ups and suspicious software

Adware and suspicious programs removed, startup items cleaned up, browser settings checked. If it is bad enough to need a reinstall, we discuss it with you first.

  3. Email and accounts

Email setup, mail that stopped after a password change, sign-in problems, two-step verification and password managers. When a password is needed, you type it yourself.

  4. Printing and scanning settings

Printer drivers, the default printer and scan-to-computer settings. For paper jams or hardware errors on the printer itself, see Printer setup & troubleshooting.

  5. Files, cloud drives and backups

Missing files, cloud drives that stopped syncing, sharing files between computers, and checking that backups are actually running.

  6. Shop and office computers

Everyday computer problems for businesses: office software, staff email and accounts, software setup on a new hire’s computer, without waiting for a visit each time.

How it works

You start the connection and nothing happens without your OK. Any extra time is discussed with you first.

  1. Tell us what’s wrong

Call, message us on WeChat or use the form, and tell us which computer and what is happening; a screenshot of any error message helps.

  2. Can it be done remotely?

We hear what is going on and decide whether it suits remote work and roughly how long it may take. If it needs hands-on work, such as a hardware fault, we say so and book a visit instead.

  3. You start the session, we get to work

We tell you which remote tool to use and how to start it. You start the connection and we act only with your OK; you see everything on screen and can end it at any time.

  4. Disconnected and itemized

We disconnect when the job is done and, unless you have agreed otherwise in writing, keep no access to your computer. The invoice shows the actual labor time for each session and no trip charge.

How remote support is billed

No trip charge; labor only, by actual time: a 30-minute minimum per session, then 15-minute increments, ×1.5 in the evening, on Sundays and on holidays. Before we start, we tell you roughly how long it may take.

Questions

Common questions about cost, scheduling and scope.

How is remote support billed?

There is no trip charge. Labor is billed by actual time: a 30-minute minimum per session (anything shorter is billed as 30 minutes), then 15-minute increments. In the evening (6 pm to 9 am), on Sundays and on holidays, labor is billed at 1.5 times; Saturday daytime is a normal day. The invoice shows the actual time.

If the problem needs a visit, the visit is billed the usual way: a trip charge based on round-trip mileage and labor with a 1-hour minimum per visit, and we explain that first. See the Pricing page for details.

Is a remote connection safe? Can you see my files?

You start the connection, and it happens only with your agreement. You can see everything we do on your screen and end it at any time. We only touch what the problem needs and ask before opening files or accounts; when a password is needed, you type it yourself. When the work is done we disconnect and, unless you have agreed otherwise in writing, keep no access to your computer.

Please note: we never call you out of the blue or use a pop-up to ask for access to your computer. If a stranger claiming to be tech support calls or pops up asking you to install software or pay, ignore it, hang up, and check with us using the phone number or WeChat on this website.

What isn’t suitable for remote support?

Anything that needs hands-on work: a computer that won’t turn on, a broken screen or part, strange noises, liquid damage, a drive that can’t be read, or a computer that can’t get online (without internet there is no remote connection). Hardware problems with cabling, routers or the printer itself also need someone on site. In those cases we tell you and book a visit.

Remote support is mainly for Windows and Mac computers. Phones and tablets mostly can’t be operated remotely; see Phone & tablet repair and New device setup & data transfer for those.

What do I need before we start?

The computer switched on and online, you sitting at it, and a phone or WeChat nearby so we can talk. Have any account passwords you may need ready; you type them in yourself. For a business, please have someone there who can approve changes.
