Overview

No signal upstairs, nothing in the basement, video calls that keep freezing, or a new router or internet provider you haven’t set up yet? We come over, measure the signal and speed next to the router and room by room, work out whether the trouble is the Wi-Fi, where things are placed or the internet line itself, and explain the fix in plain words. If your current equipment can be made to work, you keep it. If a new router, mesh units or cable are needed, we confirm the model and cost first and buy them only with your approval, at cost with the receipt.

Who it is for

  • Multi-story and two-family houses with weak spots upstairs, downstairs or in the basement
  • People who work or study from home and keep freezing on video calls
  • Homes with more and more TVs, cameras and smart devices on a network that keeps dropping
  • Anyone who switched internet providers or bought a new router and hasn’t set it up yet

What we do

The work this service usually covers. The exact scope is set out in the written quote after an on-site assessment.

  1. Signal checks and dead zones

Signal and speed measured next to the router and in every room to find dead zones, interference and dropouts; placement and settings adjusted first.

  2. Mesh Wi-Fi

For multi-story houses, basements and long railroad apartments: we plan where the main unit and satellites go, with one network name so you don’t reconnect as you move around.

  3. Router setup

A new router installed, on its own or behind your provider’s equipment, with the network name and password set and your TV, printer and cameras reconnected.

  4. Ethernet in the home

Cable runs to a home office, TV or game console, or wired backhaul for mesh satellites, laid along baseboards and door frames in neat raceway.

  5. Basic network security

The router’s default admin password changed, WPA2 or WPA3 encryption, firmware updated, unused remote management turned off and connected devices checked for strangers.

  6. Guest network and parental controls

A separate guest Wi-Fi, cameras and smart plugs on their own network, and internet hours that fit the kids’ routine (where the router supports it).

How it works

Nothing starts until you approve the quote, and parts or equipment are bought only with your OK.

  1. Tell us about your home

Call, message us on WeChat or use the form: house or apartment, how many floors, your internet provider, your router model and which rooms have trouble. Farther areas: please book in advance.

  2. On-site testing and written quote

We measure room by room, find the cause and explain the options, from adjusting what you have to adding mesh or running cable, then give you a written quote. Time spent testing counts as labor.

  3. Work starts when you approve

Nothing starts until you agree. Routers, mesh units and cable are confirmed and bought only with your approval, and drilling through a wall or floor needs the owner’s or building’s permission first.

  4. Retested, handed over, itemized

We test every room again, reconnect your devices and hand you the Wi-Fi and router admin passwords to keep. The invoice itemizes labor, the trip charge, pass-through costs and receipts for materials.

Questions

Common questions about cost, scheduling and scope.

Do I have to buy new equipment?

Not necessarily. Often the router is in the wrong spot, set up poorly or simply old. We first see whether your current equipment can be made to work better. If something new is needed, we explain why and suggest models; it is bought only with your approval, at cost with the receipt. You can also buy it yourself: send us the model first and we’ll tell you whether it suits your home.

Is it the Wi-Fi or my internet service?

We test the speed with a cable plugged into the router, then test the Wi-Fi in each room, and the comparison usually makes it clear. If it is already slow or dropping right at the router, the problem is most likely the internet line or plan, which your provider has to fix; we tell you what we measured so you can take it up with them. We can’t repair the provider’s line or equipment.

What is mesh Wi-Fi, and do I need it?

A single router at one end of the home loses strength through every wall and floor. Mesh uses several units on different floors or in different rooms that work as one network with one name. Not every home needs it: in a small apartment, one well-placed router is often enough, while multi-story houses, basements and older brick homes usually do better with mesh or a cable run. We advise after seeing the place.

Can you run cable in a rental?

Cable can run along baseboards and door frames in raceway, avoiding holes in the wall where possible. Drilling through a wall or floor needs the landlord’s or building’s permission first; in a co-op or condo, please check the building rules too. Where cable can’t go, mesh units can link wirelessly.

How is the cost worked out?

The trip charge is based on round-trip mileage on the Google Maps fastest route. Labor is billed by actual time, with a 1-hour minimum per visit and 15-minute increments after that. Tolls, the Manhattan congestion toll and parking are passed through at actual cost with no markup and itemized; parts are at cost with the receipt and bought only with your approval. You get a written quote after an on-site assessment. See the Pricing page for details.
